Better than high-tech

Many gadgets for a comfortable life are developed not because there would be a genuine need for them but because businesses, and economies, need something they can sell.

Yes, some high-tech gadgets are justified. Some way or another, they improve our sexual experience. But most is junk. At best they make us lazy. A worse aspect is that they make us unfit and stupid. And at worse they make us unfree.

I want to live away from civilization, for the freedom that comes with it. But I am aware of the fact that without technologies, this will not be feasible. And not only will I need technologies, I will also have to master them. Away from civilization, I cannot call a repairman for the heating or an aircon, and not even an electrician may be at hand. But I still will want electricity. And I better have a good practical understanding of electricity.

The same applies to food preparation and my own health care.

I have to maintain my shelter and I better understand dangers.

Living away from civilisation is not for "uncivilized" people if we define "uncivilized" as uneducated, backward, or stupid.

Stupid people better move to cities where they can become ever more stupid because life is not a challenge even thinking is taken out of their hands, or out of their brains if you so wish, and taken over by TV, advertising, and social media where group pressure and trends substitute an individuals own opinions.

I am not stupid. I have learned many technologies, and I can learn few ones. But learning technologies takes time (of which I do not have enough), and if the technologies are not necessary for my freedom, I do not want to spend time learning them. Because I long for freedom.

Wigwam homes are freedom housing. not only because all shelter we build can easily be moved from one location to another, but also because everything is designed so it can easily be maintained by oneself. Some solutions may seem low-tech, but because they are pro-freedom, they are better than high-tech.
